Strawberries are in Season

Strawberries

North Carolina is the fourth-largest producer of strawberries in the nation and we can prove this by just going around the county and smell the sweet aroma of this wonderful fruit. On average, Americans eat more than three pounds of fresh strawberries each year plus another almost two pounds of frozen strawberries. If you are someone that can’t resist stopping at the farmers market to get your weekly flat you should try this recipe that the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Wayne County has for you.

Produce Tips

  1. Look for plump berries with a natural shine, rich red color, bright green caps, and a sweet smell.
  2. Store unwashed strawberries in the refrigerator for up to three days.
  3. Before serving, use cool water to gently wash strawberries with the green caps still attached.
  4.  Look for no-sugar-added frozen strawberries.
