What is Juntos?
The Juntos Program (pronounced “Who-n-toes”), meaning “Together” in Spanish, is dedicated to uniting community partners to equip students in grades 8 through 12 and beyond, along with their families, with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to ensure high school graduation and broaden post-secondary academic and career opportunities.
In recent years, Juntos has expanded to include workforce development initiatives that encourage high school students to explore college and career pathways. The program’s success is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Cooperative Extension (4-H and Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) agents/educators), K-12 school systems, post-secondary institutions, and community partners, creating a long-lasting and impactful model that continues to grow in communities across the United States.
Our Objectives
- Increase family engagement that leads to students’ educational success
- Increase the sense of belonging among students and families in their schools and communities
- Increase student success by improving student attendance and grades, and achieving high school graduation
- Increase the engagement of students in career readiness and workforce development opportunities
Launched in 2007, the program originated from surveys conducted among Latino students and their families, which revealed a critical need for a deeper understanding of the educational system.
