The agricultural industry is considered one of the most dangerous forms of employment due to the high-risk of injury involved. To reduce this, more preventable health and safety risk education is being required on the farm. The Worker Protection Standard (WPS) is one of the requirements from the EPA requiring annual farmworker training for all agricultural workers. In addition, the EPA's list of required concepts has been revised from 11 to 23 topics.

This is a lot of information and that is why the Extension Farmworker Health & Safety Education Program is taking the lead, and helping growers.The Program helps farmers meet compliance with regulations and certifications by providing trainings that meet U.S. EPA WPS (Worker Protection Standard) and GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) standards using the new national standard training material. Our curriculum consists as follows:
Training Components:
Pesticide Safety (Worker Protection Standard): 25 minutes
Heat Stress Prevention: 20 minutes
Green Tobacco Sickness: 10 minutes
Evaluation Survey: 20 minutes
Q & A: 10 minutes
Wellness Tips: 5
TOTAL: 90 minutes
Assisting Farmers with Compliance Training:
The training comes with a certificate of completion and all necessary documentation for record keeping and is completely FREE as past of an Extension service.
